Not all mold removers are alike. Sure they may claim to work just as great as every product available on today’s market, but let’s face it, if that were true we wouldn’t be here right now reading this article on products for the job, now would we?

Of course it’s also quite obvious that we can’t just spray a sample of the product here and a sample of another product there to find out what works and what doesn’t…

So instead we venture online and do a search for a potential mold and mildew remover that we’re interested in and hope we find some really great reviews for it. Yet even with a review you may very well find that you’re missing some important information such as what’s in that bottle of spray.

Are you okay with using a product that contains harsh chemicals that could possibly cause damage to you and your family’s health, not to mention the environment? Do you want to find a product that’s chemical-free or are you just interested in making your own black mold removal home remedies to save both the environment and money. So have you asked yourself those questions? If not, you need to.

Choosing the right product for mold should be like choosing a fine wine. It should be pleasant and not harsh on your senses or the environment and it should leave your home free from mold without the need to apply the product over and over again just to see any results.

And then there’s the price. Like a cheap bottle of wine, you may wind up getting a product that just doesn’t cut it. However, the most expensive bottle of spray doesn’t always mean you’ll get your money’s worth either.

And what about those homemade products? Depending on the mold you’re dealing with, you may find that some with work while others will need several applications before you see any results. It’s really just a matter of doing your research to find out what seems to be working for everyone and what’s not.

You should keep in mind however that even the greatest product or natural remedy for mold should never be a replacement for professional mold removal services. If you find that your home has been overrun by mold, you’re really better off hiring someone to help eliminate the problem.

The same should be done if you or anyone in your family is allergic to fungus. And yes, you could send your family members away and do the cleanup yourself, but a professional can make sure your home is allergy-free by using special equipment and cleaners to get the job done right the first time.

Still, hiring a professional isn’t cheap, so if your fungal problem is manageable (10 square feet or less) there’s no reason why you can’t save money by doing the work yourself. And when you arm yourself with the right knowledge when it comes to mold removers, you can have your home mold-free in no time at all.

In most cases it’s not necessary to call in a professional when you have a minor mold problem in your home. As a matter of fact in can be a whole lot cheaper when you can tackle the situation yourself. A mold spray is an easy solution that can be either purchased from a home and gardening store, or if you’re worried about the effects of toxic chemicals, you can make your own.

If you’ve chosen to take the simplest route and just want to purchase a mold and mildew remover, you’ll want to read the label to make sure it’s safe around children and pets if you have either. Also some products may require more than one application and have chemicals than some people cannot be around such as bleach and ammonia, so always be sure and read the labels.

If you prefer the greener route, there are many mold products on the market that are safe for the environment or you can make a natural mold spray cleaning solution that can work just as well and in some cases even better than the professional products. Here are a few safer alternatives that you can try for house mold.

Vinegar is an inexpensive solution that many homeowners use. It should be used as it is without diluting it. You can apply the vinegar using a sprayer or old sponge to any moldy areas you may have in your home. Then, let the vinegar dry. Rinsing is not necessary.

Hydrogen Peroxide is another cheap and effective solution for killing mold. Simply apply the hydrogen peroxide using a sponge or sprayer to affected areas of your home and then let dry. Again, rinsing is not necessary. However, because this solution can bleach surfaces, do not use it on colored fabrics or surfaces that can be lightened.

Lemon Juice in an undiluted state can also be used to kill mold. You can mix the lemon juice with a pinch of salt and apply the solution to affected areas – then, let set for ten minutes and rinse.

Tea Tree Oil is said to be a very effective solution against many different types of mold, but can be very expensive. It can also have a very strong smell. If you don’t mind the cost or smell of tea tree oil, you can mix one teaspoon of it with one cup of water, then shake to mix. Apply to affected surfaces and let dry. You don’t need to rinse.

Grapefruit Seed Extract is another expensive but effective solution against mold. But even though it is expensive, it doesn’t have a strong smell because it’s odorless unlike other solutions. To use Grapefruit seed extract, mix ten drops of it with one cup of water, and then shake to mix. Apply to affected areas and let dry. You don’t need to rinse.

Borax Powder can be mixed with water by adding 1 tablespoon of the powder to one cup of water, then shake to mix. Apply mixture to problem areas, scrubbing if necessary and reapplying. Again, no need to rinse.

Baking Soda can be used on houseplants as mold growth inhibitor only. To apply, combine three teaspoons of baking soda with one gallon of water and spray on soil and the plant itself.

As you can see, making your own mold spray at home is pretty simple.

When it comes to the words mold and mildew remover, many people are often confused. And it’s no wonder with so many mold removal products on today’s market. Everywhere you look there are a variety of mold cleaners. There are bathroom cleaners, kitchen cleaners, all-purpose cleaners, products for toxic molds and even eco-friendly fungal removers. The choices are virtually unlimited. And with all of the confusion lies the uncontrollable urge to just grab any cleaner and go. Unfortunately doing so can be a bad choice.

Despite what a manufacturer tries to convince you of, there is a difference between mold and mildew. Mildew is generally harmless, but can cause allergies in people while some molds like black mold are very toxic.

And while a simple black mold removal spray may work on mildews and some molds, it won’t work on the toxic stuff. And speaking of toxic, if you’re concerned about your health and the ozone layer, you’ll definitely want to go with an eco-friendly product. However, whether you decide to use an eco-friendly product or not is your own call since many people have a disagreement on whether or not the product’s ability to permanently remove mold and mildew is valid.

Of course if you’re on a budget you may have heard that bleach works just as well as all of the rest. It does if it’s used on surfaces that are non-porous. Otherwise you’ll be wiping away the fungus again in a matter of a few days. Plus, you’re better off not using bleach since the chemical can cause lung damage and respiratory problems, not to mention it’s bad for the environment.

If you are going to be using a mold spray meant to remove toxic fungus, you need to arm yourself with a respiratory (surgical) mask and a pair of rubber gloves. These items will insure the safety of your health from the toxic spores. You may also want to purchase a sheet of plastic and some tape to seal of the area affected by the moldy spores, which will prevent them from migrating to other areas of your home.

Once the mold cleaner has been applied to the surface area, you should allow it to set for the exact time indicated on the bottle. Otherwise you can risk damaging the surface if you leave it on for too long or the fungus might not be removed if it’s not left on for long enough.

And of course as with any product, you’ll want to read the manufacturers notes since directions may vary. Also, you need to keep in mind that not every product will be safe on all surfaces. Even eco-friendly products can cause damage to some materials like leather. So be sure to read the warning labels and always test the mold and mildew remover in an inconspicuous area if you’re not sure of the reaction to it.

You certainly don’t want that $5000 leather couch to have a nice big ugly spot right in plain sight for all of your friends and family to see, now do you?

When it comes to mold and mildew, it’s almost always a continuous battle to keep them out of your home. Their spores can remain dormant for a very long time and reappear at the most inconvenient times. And because mold removal products are the only thing that can help you remove the mold and mildew that invades your home, it’s absolutely essential that their free of harmful chemicals.

A product whose ingredients include chemicals and other artificial additives are not only harmful to one’s health, they can also be extremely dangerous to the environment. Instead, you should be using a household black mold removal spray that is organic with ingredients made from Mother Nature and is eco-friendly.

Of course a product should only be used if the mold and mildew is minimal. If you have an excessive amount of the fungi you should seek the help of a professional mold inspector who can advise you on the types of mold you have in your home and the best way to remove them.

If you find that your mold problem is simple enough for you to handle, then there’s no reason why you can’t handle the job yourself. In general, the easiest way to remove mold and mildew from your home is to follow the manufacturer’s guide on the back of the bottle, but always remember that even when you’re working with organic sprays, safety is still a priority.

You’ll want to make sure you’re wearing the proper attire when working around any type of fungus. Proper attire should include protective eyewear with side shields, a respiratory or paper mask at the very least and a pair of rubber gloves that extend to the elbows.

You’ll also want to block off the area you’ll be working with using a sheet of painter’s plastic and tape. Taping off the affected area will prevent the fungus’s spores from spreading to other areas of your home.

Now you’re ready to spray the affected area with your chosen natural mold removal product and allow the ingredients to set for at least five minutes unless the manufacturer says otherwise.

Next wipe the area with a dry rag to remove any visible mold. Then spray the affected area again if necessary. For most sprays, it’s generally best not to rinse them away with water, but if your chosen product notes otherwise, then it’s best to follow those directions.

Once you’ve cleaned the moldy area, you’ll need to discard the rags and other items that you used around the contaminated area in a sealed bag and remove it from your home immediately. Remember, spores can become airborne and migrate, so it’s best to eliminate any sources that can contaminate your home.

Mold and mildew are not the same no matter what a product’s bottle reads. Mold can be harmless or dangerous depending on the type, while mildew is generally harmless, yet can cause severe allergies in some people. And any way you look at it, mold and mildew removal is a must. I mean come on. Who wants a nasty fuzzy mess all over the shower or along the windowsill? And that smell?

So for the sake of your sanity and everyone’s ewww gross reactions as they make a hasty exit from your bathroom and home, let’s get it cleaned up, shall we?

The first thing you really need to know is when you are dealing with either fungus, you need to wear at the very least a respiratory mask and rubber gloves. Mold can cause severe headaches, coughing, respiratory infections, dizziness, memory loss, hearing loss and joint pain. Mildew can cause allergic reactions including coughing, sneezing, sinus congestion, watery eyes, red eyes, runny nose, skin rash, fatigues and headaches.

Next, make sure you know where the source of the problem is located. You may find that it’s as simple as shower mold, which you can easily remove yourself, or something more serious like a flooded basement mold which may require the help of a professional.

If you’re planning on doing the work yourself, you can purchase a simple over-the-counter black mold removal product that is for surface cleaning only or a product that will penetrate deep down below the surface.

Whatever product you choose, make sure it’s specifically meant for the type of fungus you are removing, otherwise it will just be a waste of money and your time. You may also want to consider using a mold and mildew remover that is eco-friendly.

If you’d prefer an all-natural mold removal solution, you can try using a mixture of white vinegar and water. This solution may be a better alternative for items of delicate nature that are porous, meaning can absorb liquids easily. To use, just spray on the item and wipe away with a clean rag.

Another all-natural solution for mildew is a paste of salt and lemon juice and rubbed into the fungus. This solution can also be used on clothing, but take care not to leave in the sun since lemon is a natural lightener.

If you don’t mind the expense, many people swear by tea tree oil and water to use on mildewing stains. Just add a few drops of the oil to 1 quart of water and spray the solution onto the affected area, then wipe away with a dry rag.

To prevent problems from arising in the future one of the best and usually cheapest solutions is a dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers can help reduce fungi growth from accumulating by removing much of the humidity from the environment.

If you can’t afford a dehumidifier you can also try opening windows when you shower and turning on exhaust fans. Keeping wet towels and other moist items out of a non-ventilated bathroom may also help keep you from having to make another mold and mildew removal date with your home any time soon.

At one time in my life I was very sick. At first I thought it was a severe cold that just wouldn’t go away. It took me several years to actually discover the truth.

There was a very common fungus in my home and yet it was one of the most dangerous molds known to man. Black mold however is not only dangerous; it can also be very deadly if it’s left untreated. The good news is there are many products that are designed specifically for the removal of such molds.

Unfortunately there is also a lot of confusion as to what product on the market is the best. Everyone wants to claim that their product is the best, but that’s not always the case. For most however, choosing the right product really is a matter of preference.

Many people may suggest using bleach as a way of removing the toxic fungi. But, what they don’t know is that bleach only kills on the surface layer. Anything that is below the surface is left untouched. That is why it’s very important to use a product that is meant to penetrate the surface. If you don’t, the problem will return.

Natural Mold Removal Products

The best suggestion I can make is to use a product that is not only safe for the environment, but also safe around your family and pets. The reason for this is really quite obvious. If you’ve been affected by the toxic fungus already, it just makes sense to avoid any harsh chemicals that can cause even more damage to your body. Therefore in my opinion, a natural or organic black mold removal product is a much better solution.

If you do decide to use a natural mold removal product, don’t let the prices fool you. Remember many brands are expensive because of their name only. Do your research and compare the ingredients. Many of the lesser-known brands are just as effective, but with less of a price tag.

You should also look for a product that does double duty. While most will remove the dangerous fungus below the surface, others will also add a protective barrier to keep the problem from coming back. And if you’re planning to paint over an area where an area was affected, you may want to consider using a mold inhibitor when you’re painting to barricade any future molding issues.

And finally, always read the labels when choosing black mold removal products. Some may require you to treat the area more than once while others may not. But the final results will always be worth the time and the effort. After all, it’s for your safety and health.
